By Luis Orozco, LCSW – While it is reasonable for people to be worried about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is essential to keep things in perspective and manage our fears and anxiety. Staying mentally healthy is crucial for our overall wellbeing, especially when being exposed to large volumes of distressing information. Below you will find helpful tips on how to manage the anxiety around Coronavirus.

Keep things in perspective – Remember that scientists, public health experts, and governments around the world are working hard to contain the virus, treat those affected and develop a vaccine as quickly as possible.

Get the facts – Stay informed by accessing reputable sources of information. For example, the CDC website, www.cdc.gov , provides helpful information on how to stay safe and how to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

Be mindful of your assumptions – Someone who may appear to have flu-like symptoms does not necessarily mean that the person has Coronavirus. It is important not to over-worry or stigmatize others in our community.

Stay healthy – Adopting healthy hygienic habits such as washing your hands regularly as well as avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth can help people stay healthy and prevent the spread of any virus.
